History of the Omega Beta Chapter
On a
sunny, spring day in 1952, fourteen young ladies came together to discuss the
organization of something new on the campus of
Fayetteville
State
University. Those ladies wanted to bring a special
sorority to the university and not just any sorority, but one of scholarship,
character, and finer womanhood, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Incorporated. This outstanding sisterhood first advisor was Soror Beulah Jones. On May 17, the Omega Beta Chapter was
formed and soror Julie K. McCormick of
Wilmington,
North Carolina was chosen as the first Basileus
of this group of young ladies with excellent scholarship and high moral
character.
Today, in keeping
with the ideals, the sorority is continuously stressing the concepts of
Community Service,
Scholarship, Sisterly Love,
and Finer womanhood. The
activities in which Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. participates in are all geared
to these standards. Today, the Omega Beta chapter holds the distinction as
the only sorority to have sustained a position on the campus of
Fayetteville
State
University which has never been put on probation
whether it is academically or socially. The current advisor is Soror Linda Wilson-Jones of the Gamma Upsilon Zeta Chapter
of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
