History of The Gamma Upsilon Zeta Chapter

Gamma Upsilon Zeta and Omega Beta at Zeta Beta Sigma & Gamma Upsilon Zeta Chapter 14th Annual Joint Founder'z Day Banquet

   In 1949, through the efforts and interests of Alpha Omicron Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, and their president, Dr. Charles Deberry, Gamma Upsilon Zeta Chapter was chartered in Elizabethtown, North Carolina.  Twelve ladies were inducted into this great organization.  Leslie Roberts Hill, served as First Basileus.  Under her administration, the first program of any Greek Letter Organization was held on the campus of Fayetteville State Teachers College.  At this time, the Chapter's first Finer Womanhood Program was observed.

   Upon the recommendation of the National Body, the Chapter's charter was moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1952.  Shortly thereafter, an Undergraduate chapter was founded on the campus of Fayetteville State Teachers College. Sorors Lois Turner, and Beulah Jones were sponsors.
