Officer Candidacy

BioΦChem is looking for leaders to fill officer positions for the 2007-2008 academic year.  Holding an office not only builds a resume, but also provides personal development through use of creativity, organizational, and leadership skills.  However, candidates should be willing to commit a certain amount of time towards the organization.   

 

Requirements for Election

  • Officers must maintain at least 4 hours a week in the Science Club Officers will be elected once a year by vote, generally during the last meeting of the spring semester.

  • Each person must campaign for their office by posting a campaign flyer at least one week prior to voting of officers.

  • All undergraduate majors are eligible to run for any other positions

  • In order to run for the office of president you must have previously held an officer position within the club

  • Members will be notified during a meeting in addition to posted notification elections and nominations



Officer Position Descriptions

President

  • Works very closely with Advisor and Vice-President in the administration of the organization
  • Presides over club meetings and introduces any old or new business in general meetings
  • Organizes and delegates responsibilities and planning committees
  • Reserves the right to call an emergency meeting or cancel meeting with just cause

Vice President

  • Assumes the responsibilities of the President in his/her absence
  • Manages projects delegated by the President
  • Helps President execute the administration of the organization
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records of inventory and supplies
  • In case of absence Vice Presidents duties maybe fulfilled by another officer

Treasurer

  • Maintain financial status of organization, working in conjunction with the advisor
  • Must provide advisor an accurate account of all monies accepted or paid on a set day of each week, but no later than Friday
  • Keep a record of Monies raised through special projects and fundraisers
  • Provide a financial report for the club at every organization meeting
  • In case of absence of this officer, another officer or member can fulfill the role of treasurer as appointed by the President or Advisor

Secretary/Asst. Secretary

  • Keep accurate records and complete official documentation for the organization
  • Maintain Minutes from previous meetings
  • Take accurate notes during the meeting
  • E-mailing members about upcoming events
  • Safeguard any club documents
  • Creation of flyers and other means of advertisementand marketing

Historian/Asst. Historian

  • Responsible for maintaining record books of club activities and members
  • MsoNormalResponsible for maintaining club scrap book
  • Expected to be present at all club events and activities
  • Must maintain club website
  • Distribution and removal of flyers

Parliamentarian

  • Supervise organizational voting
  • Maintain order within organizational and officer meetings
  • Advises the President and other officers, committees, and members on matters of parliamentary procedure
