The Ernest E. Just commemorative stamp was issued Feb. 1, 1996, on the campus of Howard University, as the 19th stamp in the U.S. Postal Service's ongoing Black Heritage stamp series.  The stamp uses a Robert Scurlock photo.

"Let Me Tell You About Ronald McNair..."

 

Dr. Ronald E. McNair was mission specialist on STS 51-L which was launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, at 11:38:00 EST on January 28 1986. The crew on-board the orbiter Challenger died on January 28, 1986 after the Challenger exploded 1min. 13 sec. after launch.

Unsatisfied with the depiction of African-Americans through white historians, Brother Carter G. Woodson, also known as the "Father of Black History," helped set the record straight.   Brother Woodson is perhaps best known for the Negro History Week that he first organized in February, 1926 and which today has developed into Black History Month.
