The University of North Carolina Asheville is the only designated liberal arts campus among the seventeen institutions that comprise the UNC system.  Located in one of the most vibrant cities in the southeast in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, UNCA is one of a growing number of publicly supported liberal arts colleges that offer outstanding educational value.  The university began offering a minor in Religious Studies in 1999, and in 2009 the program achieved full departmental status with the addition of a major.
