North Carolina Religious Studies Association
Business Meeting
October 24, 2003

President Richard Hall called the meeting to order at 1:50 PM in
Salon A of the Barnhardt Student Activities Center at the University of
North Carolina -- Charlotte.
The minutes of the October 25, 2002, meeting were distributed and
approved. The Secretary-Treasurer also distributed a dues notice for
2003-2004 and a Treasurer's report, showing a balance of $624.89. The
report was accepted.
John Collins moved that the association return to Charlotte as often
as invited. John Brooks seconded , and the motion was approved.. In the
event that the association would not be meeting in Charlotte next year,
Jim McLachlan invited the association to Western Carolina University for
next year's meeting. The invitation was accepted, on the assumption that
the meeting would not be in Charlotte again next year.
Jim McLachlan was then elected Vice President / Program Chair and
Local Arrangements Chair for next year's meeting, and Greg Rich was
re-elected Secretary-Treasurer for one more year. In accordance with the
association's constitution, John Brooks will become President for next
year.
John Collins moved that Fayetteville State University host the web
site for the association's on-line journal, THINKING ABOUT RELIGION, and
that P. Eddy Wilson become Editor of the journal. Joe Frank Jones
seconded, and the motion was approved. The understanding was that John
Brooks would manage the web site at Fayetteville State. Journal Editor
P. Eddy Wilson encouraged presenters and reviewers to complete their
work in a timely manner.
President Richard Hall thanked UNC-C for hosting this year's meeting
and for providing the members of the association with a delicious lunch.
The Secretary-Treasurer agreed to send notes of thanks to the UNC-C
Department of Religion and to the Dean of the College of Arts and
Sciences. Richard Hall further thanked John Brooks for his stellar work
as Program Chair for this year's meeting. In this case as well, the
Secretary-Treasurer agreed to follow-up with a thank-you note.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:15 PM.
