Thinking About Religion
Submission Guidelines

Journal Mission

The journal, Thinking About Religion, provides a platform for members of the North Carolina Religious Studies Association (NCRSA) to publish in digital form peer reviewed manuscripts presented at the annual meeting.  Likewise the journal is open to submissions from scholars who may wish to develop topics of interest to the NCRSA.

Editorial Policy

Articles submitted should contribute to the study of religion in the academy broadly understood.  To determine appropriate subject matter contributors should consult past issues of the journal or members of the editorial board.  The General Editor and Technical Editor retain the right to refuse to publish submissions not in keeping with the mission of the journal.

Review Procedure and Submission Guidelines

Submissions shall undergo blind (peer) review by a board of referees with the assistance of the general editor. Contributors receive a review form from their referee that contains one of three judgments: (a) accepted as is or with minor revisions; (b) accepted pending revisions; (c) not accepted. Articles accepted for publication shall require the approval of two members of the review board.   The Program Chair of the annual meeting of the NCRSA or a designee of that officer may cast one vote for a manuscript previously included in the annual program.  Submissions from individuals not participating in the annual conference must receive favorable reviews from two members of the board of referees to be considered for publication.

Style and Format

Authors are encouraged to consult the Chicago Manuel of Style regarding style and documentation.  Previous volumes of the journal provide examples of acceptable style.

Manuscripts should be prepared for blind review.  Submissions sent as Microsoft Word documents or RTF files are preferred.

Manuscripts should average 2,500 to 3,500 words excluding references and notes.

Authors grant first rights to the journal for the publication of their articles.

Proposals for book reviews should be introduced during the business meeting at the annual conference.

Submissions

Manuscripts may be sent to any member of the publication board for forwarding or sent directly to the general editor:
