About the Journal
The Mentor: Journal of Mentoring and Field Experience is the official journal of the National Association of Mentors in Higher Education (NAMHE), a body of college intellectuals, administrators, and other professionals who share common concerns, interests, and responsibilities for helping college students attain their respective academic and professional goals. The NAMHE and The Mentor consider the subject matter of mentoring as generic to all disciplines and experiences where success is a desideratum. Thus, The Mentor is an academic journal as well as an interdisciplinary organ devoted to the dissemination of scholarly contributions to effective college and school mentoring programs, evaluation of field research, and on-the-job experience in professional fields of study. The Mentor is expected to contribute significantly to the area of mentoring.
Editorial Scope
The Mentor: Journal of Mentoring and Field Experience publishes articles that apply to mentoring. Whereas more consideration is given to empirical manuscripts, non-empirical articles will be considered if they demonstrate evidence of originality in the theorization and conceptualization of issues relevant to a specific theme. Specifically, preference is given to articles that address practical issues associated with field placement, field research, classroom teaching and mentoring. The editorial policy of The Mentor favors articles that improve and evaluate knowledge in mentoring as well as reflect the breadth of interest of its readership. Thus, the journal welcomes manuscripts from the arts, education, natural and social sciences including psychology, mental health, nursing, social work, sociology, criminal justice, as well as from business. Students are also encouraged to submit manuscripts. Manuscripts are evaluated blindly by a minimum of two reviewers.
Manuscript Submissions
The Mentor is published annually. Manuscripts should be sent in triplicate and must not exceed 25 type-written, double-spaced pages, with margins not more than one and a half inches wide. In addition, authors must submit a 3.5" floppy disk of the article in Word Perfect 6.1, 7.0, or 8.0 for Windows. Manuscripts must be accompanied by an abstract of 100-120 words typed on a separate sheet of paper. The manuscript must have a title page containing the title, the name of the author, the address and phone number as well as his or her affiliation. Articles including citations, references, pagination, etc., must conform to the editorial format of the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual (1994). Tables, diagrams, or illustrations, should appear on separate pages and be numbered accordingly. All manuscripts should be accompanied by a brief biography of the author(s). The Mentor does not accept manuscripts which have been submitted or which have been accepted for publication by any other organization.
