EZ History

Established: November 3, 1958

During the Spring of the 57-58 school year twelve men of Fayetteville State Teachers College became restless with the complacency of life at the college and decided to start a new movement. These men's motives were to venture into the highest degree of social bracket as it relates to college activities and to organize a fraternity, similar to ones that were already instituted at the college.

After coming together and discussing the type of organization that would fit their desires, these men looked into the city of Fayetteville to find Epsilon Rho Lambda, an Alpha Phi Alpha Graduate Chapter which consists of several outstanding men.

Upon the opening of school in September, 1958, seven of the men returned with the determination to be Alpha Men! Those who returned were Boyd, Bullock, Cummings, Hunter, Knight, McDaniel, and McKeithan--they united forces and continued to the day that they would become Sphinxmen. Dr. B Toppin, Chairman of the Area of Social Science worked closely with them. The tasks were not easy and at times moved slowly but the day finally came when they became Alpha men.

Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha will be eternally grateful for the efforts of Mr. Bacote, Dr. Toppin, and all Alpha men involved with our development.

The Founders of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter are:

Dr. Major M. Boyd

Mr. Lewis Bullock

Rev. Jimmy F. Cummings

Dr. Eugene R. Hunter

Rev. Aaron Knight

Dr. Clyde O. McDaniel

Mr. Luther E. McKeithan-Omega Chapter

From all the members of EZ we thank our founders for taking that step towards the light.
